
How LLLT Works!
When cells are stressed, Mitochondrial Nitric Oxide (mtNO) is over produced and gets trapped in the mitochondria, the cells energy production centre. This inhibits oxygen uptake and causes oxidative stress leading to increased inflammation and reduction of ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate) which is vital for cell repair and maintenance. Low level laser therapy displaces the Nitric Oxide which can then be released. Oxygen can then re-enter the cell and begin the respiratory cycle to produce ATP and aid the healing process.
Effects
Low Level Laser Therapy main effects include reducing inflammation, pain relief and tissue repair/healing without taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which have been proven to slow healing. Improvement in muscular performance, including increase in power, less fatigue and faster recovery have also been proven. Because this therapy works at a cellular level, LLLT also has many other secondary effects and benefits.
Treatment
Low level laser therapy involves shining red or near infra-red light onto areas of damage and inflammation, stimulating lymph nodes and applying cold laser to nerves to provide pain relief for injuries and painful conditions. Acute or chronic tendinopathies
LLLT (photobiomodulation) for the treatment of tendinopathies, is active in producing an anti-inflammatory effect and a stimulating effect of the tissue repair process. LLLT
LLLT is a laser or LED light therapy that improves tissue repair (skin wounds, muscle, tendon, bone, nerves), reduces inflammation and reduces pain wherever the beam is applied.
TWO kinds of LLLT
Yes, high power density is necessary for analgesia and deep tissue targets, low power density (< 100mW/cm²) is necessary to promote healing and reduce inflammation in superficial wounds, tendons and joints (the target is the synovia not the joint).
Analgesic
This depends on an LLLT overdose; Higher power density LLLT >300mW/cm² reduces ATP production in C fibres and A delta fibres resulting in an immediate neural blockade lasting up to approx 24 hr.
